One of the most prosperous cities in the state of Punjab in northwest India, Amritsar is the spiritual and cultural hub of the Sikh community. Christened after the holy tank of Amrit Sarovar, the city of Amritsar was founded in late 16th century A D by the fourth Sikh Guru, Guru Ram Das Ji.
