Orphanages in Panchkula

An orphanage (also children's home) is a residential institution initiated for the care of orphans – those children whose natural parents or immediate family members are deceased or otherwise unable or unwilling to take responsibility for them.Normally, Natural parents, and sometimes natural grandparents, are legally entitiled for supporting children, but in case of the absence of these or other relatives willing to care for the children, they become the responsibility of the state, and orphanages are one of the means for providing for their care, housing and education.

Orphanages are highly structured institutions which try to fulfill all the basic requirements of children and attempt to create as homely an environment as they can. Orphanages are both governmental and non governmental. Non governmental orphanages basically are dependent on the donations by philanthropists. Panchkula has number of orphanages in different parts of the city, a brief summary of which is provided below:

Bal Niketan in Panchkula

Bal Niketan is an attempt to create a home for orphaned or abandoned children within the state of Haryana and adjoining areas .It was established on 2nd October, 1983. It was the initiative of its Founder President late Shri J.D. Sharma  who was an eminent educationist and philanthrophist and a former Vice Chancellor of Jammu University. Inspired by the humble words of Swami Vivekananda, "They Alone Live Who Live for Others", its founder undertook the noble task of establishing this center to help such children who have no one to take care of them to grow and live with dignity as good citizens and ultimately to stand on their own feet through education and vocational training arranged by Bal Niketan. It is located in Panchkula. and have a strength of around 60 children.

Bal Sadan in Panchkula

Moved by the plight of the orphaned and destitute children abandoned, uncared for and no one to call their own, Late Mr. Almadi laid the foundation stone of Bal Sadan in the year 1991 and worked for its betterment till his demise in 1996. Eventually few other like-minded public-spirited workers joined this noble initiative of his. Bal Sadan was then registered as a recognised institution in 1992, as a society under the registration of Societies Act 1860.As the donations started pouring in, there was an increase in the number of children within the center.

The society moved from a small apartement in the Haripur village into a bigger hired accommodation with much better facilities. They now have their own building that the children can call their own home. From a humble founding, Bal Sadan has covered great distances and is growing by leaps and bounds with the support of a large, public spirited and enthusiastic team of volunteers. Financial contributions come in from an increasing number of well wishers and philanthropists from around the world.

Aashiana in Panchkula

Association for Social Health in India is a complete voluntary and Social Organisation aimed at challenging those conditions that catalyse the exploitation of women and children for anti-social purposes. The Association's project "ASHIANA" in Panchkula, Haryana, has a capacity to shelter about 60 children belonging the disadvantaged sections of the society. Since its inception in 1980, it has taken care of  more than 400 children between the ages of 6 and 18 years.

They receive all the basic necessities like complete nutritious diet, preventive health care for prevention and treatment of various diseases like jaundice, hepatitis etc, school uniforms as well as books, games and other necessary equipment etc. for holistic development of mind and body and are instilled with a confidence which allows them to strive ahead without an inferiority complex with their peers in schools. All the children do very well in studies and quite a few of them have had high divisions in schools and colleges and won scholarships:

Shishu Greh in Panchkula

Haryana State Council for Child Welfare is running a Home namely “Shishu Greh” in Panchkula for abandoned and destitute children from its own and donated resources. The children left abandoned or disowned by the biological parents in any part of Haryana are brought in Shishu Greh through respective Deputy Commissioners of the various districts. Haryana State Council for Child Welfare adopts such children and provides them with a comfortable and homely stay at Shishu Greh.

These children are provided with proper child care, medical, nutrition and all other necessary facilities. The Home is well equipped with special arrangements for taking care of children with high vulnerability of infection, pre-mature birth complications, and low birth weight as well as children with normal health. The institution has appointed experienced staff comprising of Medical Officer, Project Officer, overall Supervisors, Nurses and Child Care Workers for taking care of children and making their stay within the organisation comfortable and carefree.

All of these orphanages also work as adoption centers from where people willing to adopt children can adopt kids.Also, since these organisations primarily work with the help of donations, Government of India has made all the donations made to such institutions eligible for rebate under income tax regulations in order to encourage more and more people to help such institutes.
