Morni Hill Station

Morni is a tourist destination in Morni Hills in Panchkula. Morni Hills are created out of the offshoots of Shivalik range of the Himalayas, which runs in two parallel ranges. The village of Morni  lies on the sides of mountains, at 1222 meters above mean sea level. History assigns the name of Morni to a Queen who is believed to have ruled this area. Among the hills, lie two lakes, the larger is about 552 meters long and 463 meters broad and the other about 364 meters either way. A hill forms the dividing line between the two lakes but there is believed to be some secret channel, as the level of two lakes remains the same. The people revere the lakes as sacred. There is also an old fort, which is now in ruins. The hills are dotted  with pine trees.

The climate is pleasant and the area is suitable for trekking. The Haryana Government has built this hill resort and provides facilities to tourists, a well laid road was constructed to connect the Morni hills with  Highway near Panchkula. In order to accomodate the huge inflow of tourists and trekkers to this largely unexplored hilly terrain ,a Forest Department rest house named "Lal Munia" and a Public Works Department rest house were also constructed . There are also small playgrounds and gardens for children. There is a roller skating ring and a clean swimming pool. It is an ideal location for tourists who want to avoid crowds and for those who love to be close to nature.

There are a number of resorts that add to accommodation options and variability in and around Morni. It is a place that is loved by nature starved people for the weekends or holidays and it might be difficult to grab a decent meal at times. It is preferred to make advance bookings.

The road that starts from the zenith of the hill station brings you down to a seasonal waterfall that drops into a muddy lake but is quite solitary and therefore provides relaxation space and time.

The geometrically placed streetlights, & occasionally bright signboards, howsoever blurred tend to mesmerize you.The two popular attraction of Morni are Nada Saheb Gurudwara and Mansa Devi temple.

Nada Saheb

Gurudwara Nada Sahib is located in Panchkula by the banks of the river of Ghaggar . Post Battle of Bhangani in 1687, Guru Gobind Singh rested here, before going to Anandpur Sahib (From Paonta Sahib). The Guru was welcomed by his follower Nadu Shah, after whom the name of the Gurudwara is.In 1956, the Gurudwara was brought under the aegis Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee(the sikh institutional body) from the Dharmarth Board of Patiala and East Punjab States Union, two erstwhile Sikh bodies. It is situated right on the Panchkula-Naraingarh Highway and has a museum with fascinating artifacts, three storey parking area and a langar hall. The place is visited by many pilgrims every month on full moon day.

Mansa Devi Temple

The Mansa Devi Temple is one of the famous Shakti Peethas in the region and is dedicated to Mansa Devi, who is believed to be an incarnation of much revered Goddess Parvati who was the wife of Lord Shiva. There are two beautiful and fascinating temples at this site. The older of the two is believed to have been constructed by Raja Gurbaksh Singh, the famous ruler of Manimajra.

The latest was ordered to be constructed by Maharaja Karam Singh of Patiala on account of his victory over the Gurkha rulers. There are above 37 panels of wall paintings in this temple, along with floral designs inscribed on the ceiling. These paintings potray the themes from the Markandeya Purana which is dedicated to Goddess Mansa Devi.

The town has grown and so has time required to absorb the beautiful locales and soak the nature and experience that it provides.
